Deacon Jewel Thomas Middleton, Jr. (or Jay, as he is affectionately called) was born in Indianapolis on October 15, 1963. He has attended Christ Temple since birth. Deacon Jay’s parents are Deacon Jewel Sr. and Sister Gloria Middleton. He has been married to Sis. Lanita Renee Middleton (Duerson) for 33 years. Together, they are blessed to have three sons: Gahrrett, Jehromey, and Jordan. Deacon Jay loves the sense of family he feels at Christ Temple and he loves serving the people of God in any way that he can.
On December 31, 1979, Deacon Jay received the gift of the Holy Ghost when he was 15 years old. During that time, he had been a very active member of Christ Temple. He served as Treasurer in the Young People’s Union, a member of the Youth Choir, served on the Usher Board, and on the Bible Bowl team.
Deacon Jay graduated from North Central High School in 1982. In 1983, he joined the United States Air Force where he worked in the Telecommunications Federal Department serving in Guam, New York, Holland, Germany, and South Carolina. He attended Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and the Community College of the United States Air Force. Deacon Jay graduated and obtained his Associates Degree in Information Systems Technology.
In 2005, Jay became a Deacon on the Christ Temple Official Board, where he currently serves as the Vice Chairman. Presently, Deacon Jay serves on various auxiliaries within Christ Temple including: The Renovation Project and Finance Committee, the Usher Board, and the Christian Academy Board. Deacon Jay has also been a Sunday School teacher in the High School Department and recently served as the Sunday School Superintendent for the past 5 years.
Deacon Jay credits his grandmother, Sister Sara Fuqua Middleton, as a great influence in his spiritual life because of her unwavering faith in God.
Now, Deacon Jay is the Customer Services Manager at the Park Fletcher Branch Post Office of the United States Postal Service.
One of Deacon Jay’s favorite songs is, “He’s Been Faithful to Me.” His favorite book of the Bible is Colossians, and his favorite scripture is Philippians 3:10. Deacon Jay enjoys outdoor activities, especially golfing and gardening.
